Loadmasters from the 193rd Special Operations Squadron conducted bi-fold auxiliary ramp (canary slides) training Oct. 30 on the flightline.

The 193rd SOS loadmasters utilize the canary slides on the unit’s EC-130SJ Super J aircraft to provide quick access for equipment and personnel during infiltration and exfiltration operations, said Master Sgt. Mathew Verghese, an aircraft loadmaster with the 193rd SOS.

The canary slides are only carried when the unit is required to do certain mission sets, said Verghese. When needed, the slides will be attached and stowed on the aircraft ramp. The slides can then be quickly deployed to streamline the loading and unloading of personnel and vehicles.

The purpose of this training was to continue mission qualification for a new loadmaster, said Verghese. Photos and video were also taken of the training to help further develop curriculum.

It is extremely important that the Wing is trained to support this capability and is ready to support any tasks that may rise from the U.S. Special Operations Command, said Verghese.
