MIDDLETOWN, PA — Airmen assigned to the 193rd Special Operations Wing participated in a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) defense survival class here Nov. 3, 2024.

The training equips Airmen with critical skills to recognize, respond to and survive potential CBRNE threats in both domestic and deployed environments.

“We need to continue to become proficient and comfortable working in a CBRNE environment,” said Lt. Col. Darren Zimmerman, 193rd Special Operations Wing inspector general. “We are great at wearing MOPP (Mission-Oriented Protective Posture) gear, but we need to be great at operating in it.”

CBRNE defense is essential for Airmen supporting missions, where unexpected chemical or biological threats may arise. For members of the 193rd SOW, mastering these survival techniques enhances mission readiness and safety, ensuring they are prepared to respond swiftly and effectively in hazardous environments. This training underlines the Air Force’s commitment to safeguarding its personnel and securing mission success in any situation.
