A new commander was appointed to the 193rd Special Operations Force Support Squadron here May 15.

Maj. Anne Furman assumed command of the squadron during an assumption of command ceremony.

Furman has served 22 years within the 193rd SOFSS, originally enlisting as a services specialist before gaining her officer commission. She has deployed twice and also served in various positions within the force support squadron throughout her career, serving most recently as deputy commander prior to assuming this new role.

During her speech, Furman thanked the leadership and mentorship she has received from not only the leaders above her, but from the Airmen and NCOs serving within the organization.

“At this point in my career I’m not here for me anymore; I’m here for you guys,” said Furman. “That is how I feel about this commander badge; it’s not for me, it’s for me to stand for you.”

Furman will serve as commander to more than 60 Airmen in the force support squadron, whose responsibilities include a wide range of duties within the personnel, training and services career fields.

“I am so excited about this squadron,” said Furman. “I love the diversity that we have across the squadron, not only in who we are, but in what we do.”
